Zip Armchair: A Blend of Comfort and Design

edeestudio's Award-Winning Design Inspired by the 60s and 70s

The Zip armchair, designed by edeestudio, is a unique blend of comfort and design, drawing inspiration from the furniture styles of the late 60s and 70s. This award-winning design showcases a perfect balance between artisanal and industrial work, offering a comfortable seating solution for various spaces.

The Zip armchair is characterized by its large, rounded backrest, a feature reminiscent of the iconic designs from the 60s and 70s. Despite its seemingly large size, the armchair is proportionally measured and lightweight, making it a versatile piece for any setting. The collection, which includes a sofa, divan, and corner and coffee tables, is designed with high-quality materials to ensure maximum comfort.

The design process of the Zip armchair involved a blend of technology and craftsmanship. Initial sketches were modeled in 3D to review ergonomics and measurements. The seat, arm, and back were carefully studied and crafted with different densities of rubber foam to ensure maximum comfort. The upholstery was hand-sewn using top-quality materials from Gabriel Fabrics. The frame is made of metal and solid wood, crafted by skilled carpenters.

The technical specifications of the Zip armchair reflect its high-quality design. The armchair features a metal and solid wooden frame covered by polyurethane foam rubber. The seating is non-removable and composed of two layers of soft foam rubber, covered by thermofused, aged, non-toxic, anti-allergic, and anti-dust mite fiber. The backrest, also non-removable, is composed of a layer of foam rubber covered by similar fiber. The base is made of polished beechwood.

The Zip armchair was designed with a variety of spaces in mind, making it an ideal choice for hotels, conference rooms, breakout areas, restaurants, and boardrooms. The design project, which started in May 2014 in Valencia, was completed in February 2015 and was first exhibited at the Habitat Valencia Furniture Fair.

The design of the Zip armchair faced several challenges, particularly in achieving the desired comfort level. Several prototypes with different foam densities were created until the perfect comfort level was achieved. The internal structure also underwent changes to make the armchair lighter and easier to handle. The upholstered arms were carefully studied and tested, with the zipper being chosen as the best solution.

The Zip armchair's design is protected by patent and was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
